Bane and Deathstroke: DC’s New Villains Coming on Big Screen

DC introduces new villain movies featuring Bane and Deathstroke on the big screen

DC is riding high right now! The studio is gaining serious momentum with “Joker: Folie á Deux” about to hit theaters and the “Penguin” series winning over fans on HBO. But just as things are heating up. DC might be trading on similar and risky ground. According to The Hollywood Reporter, DC is now diving deeper into its villain pool with new projects centered on Bane and Deathstroke.

Matthew Orton, known for his work on the upcoming “Captain America: Brave New World,” is reportedly penning the scripts. This move feels a lot like Sony’s recent attempts with Spider-Man villains like Venom and Morbius, and it raises a big question: Can DC replicate the success of “Joker,” or is this a gamble that could backfire?

DC nailed it with “Joker” because the character was iconic, and the story was grounded in something familiar yet fresh. But can lightning strike twice? Bane and Deathstroke are fun favorites with rich histories, But these films could struggle to connect without the right touch. The stakes are high, and DC is betting big on its baddies- let’s hope it pays off!

As DC gears up for new villain-focused projects, two names are making headlines: Bane and Deathstroke. But who are these iconic bad guys, and why are fans so excited?

Bane: The Brutal Genius Who Broke the Bat

Bane is a relatively new but formidable addition to Batman’s rogues’ gallery. Created in the early ’90s by Chuck Dixon and Graham Nolan, Bane’s backstory is as intense as his physical strength. Born in a brutal prison on a Caribbean island, he grew up surrounded by the world’s worst criminals, learning combat and strategy from the worst of the worst. His strength comes from a dangerous steroid called Venom, which also keeps him dependent on the drug.

Bane’s significant movement came in the “Knightfall”  storyline when he broke Batman’s back, cementing his place as one of the Dark Knight’s most feared foes. Tom Hardy’s portrayal of Bane in “The Dark Knight Rises” brought the character to life on the big screen, complete with that unforgettable voice.

Deathstroke: The Ultimate Assassin

Deathstroke, created by Marv Wolfman and George Perez in 1980, started as a Teen Titans villain but quickly evolved into one of DC’s top-tire bad guys. Deathstroke is a master assassin with enhanced strength, agility, and a strategic mind. It is known for being nearly unstoppable. He’s been played by Esai Morales in the “Titans” series and Joe Manganiello in Zack Snyder’s DC films. Fun fact: Deathstroke was once set to be the main villain in “The Batman” when Ben Affleck was still in the director’s chair.

As DC continues to explore these complex characters, fans are eager to see how Bane and Deathstroke will fit into the evolving landscape of the DC Universe. With “Joker: Folie a Deux” already generating buzz ahead of its October 4 release, it’s clear that DC’s villains are ready for their spotlight. Stay tuned for more updates!
